St Dominic PTO By-Laws

ARTICLE I


 

This organization shall be called "The St. Dominic Parent Teacher Organization", PTO.

ARTICLE II

 



The objective of the PTO shall be to advance the interest of education, by supporting students and faculty.

 

SECTION I:  Fund raising activities shall be an important directive of the organization.  The money raised from these activities shall be under the direct control of the Executive Board of the PTO.

SECTION II:  The PTO will also present information and educational series to the school community.

ARTICLE III

 



Any member of the St. Dominic parish, all St. Dominic faculty members and any parent or guardian of a student at St. Dominic interested in the objections of the PTO can become a member.

 

SECTION I:  Dues for this organization shall be $5.00 a year per family.  Dues can be raised on on an annual basis as deemed necessary, by the board.

SECTION II:  Only members whose dues are paid in full shall be permitted to vote.

ARTICLE IV

 



SECTION I:  The Executive Board of the PTO shall be:  Co-Presidents, Co-Presidents Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary.

 

SECTION II:  All Board members having voting privileges.  Each position will not exceed 2 chairpersons.

SECTION III:  The Executive Board and Coordinator Chairpersons shall be elected for a one year term.  Committee Chairpersons shall be appointed each year by the co-presidents and co-presidents elect.  Each position will not exceed 2 chairpersons.  The number of terms can be unlimited if the position is not contested.

ARTICLE V

 



SECTION I:  The duties of the Co-Presidents of the PTO shall be to:
  • Chair and coordinate those activities as requested by the Executive Board.
  • Be a liaison between the administration and the PTO.
  • To preside at all meets of the organization.
  • To coordinate all PTO activities.
  • To serve as a representative to the education commission.
  • To oversee the selection of scholarship awards.
  • To provide information for the PTO Newsletter.
  • To oversee all committees.
SECTION II:  The duties of the Co-President Elects of the PTO shall be to:
 
  • Chair and coordinate those activities as requested by the Executive Board
  • Help the President to coordinate PTO activities.
  • Assume th duties of the Presidents in their absence.
  • To assume the duties of the presidency the following yearCoordinate the used uniform sale and the 8th grade graduation dance.
  • Coordinate the used uniform sale, 8th grade graduation dance and the PTO festival booth.

SECTION III:  The duties of the Treasurer shall be:

  • Custodian of all PTO funds.
  • Work closely with the parish business manager to manage and record PTO funds.
  • Pay all PTO bills when aurhorized by the executive board.
  • She/He shall make a report, to be printed in each PTO Newsletter.
  • Submit his/her accounts for audit on a yearly basis.

SECTION IV:  The duties of the Recording Secretary shall be:

  • To record the minutes of all meetings of the PTO.
  • Prepare the minutes of the general PTO meeting for publication in the PTO Newsletter.
  • Call the roll call of officers at all board meetings
  • Handle official correspondence of the PTO.

ARTICLE VI

 


 

SECTION I:  These Fund Raising chairpersons shall be elected at the General PTO meeting in March if necessary.

  • Family Meal Assistance
  • Gift Wrap
  • Ice Cream
  • Lunch with Santa
  • Magazine Drive                           
  • Market Day
  • PTO Hot Lunch
  • Room Parent
  • Spirit Wear
  • Trash Bags
  • Walk-A-Thon

 

SECTION II:  These Committee Chairpersons shall be elected at the General PTO meeting in March if necessary:

  • Attendance
  • Membership
  • Publicity
  • School Supplies

ARTICLE VII

 



Meetings shall be held in August/September, November, December, March and May at 7:00 P.M. unless otherwise ordered by the Executive Board.  Time of the program shall be flexible.

 At each general meeting there will be a PTO Paid Memebership drawing for $100.00.  If the name of the paid PTO member is not present, this $100.00 will be carried until the next meeting and added to that month's drawing for a total of 5 drawings in a school year (1 at each general meeting).  The total will accumulate until someone wins.  when/if the money is claimed, the next month's meeting will start again at $100.00.  At the May PTO meeting, we will continue to draw a name until there is a winner.

There will be a seperate drawing for any teacher in attendance.  They will have the opportunity to win a $25.00 gift certificate to Holcomb.  A teacher needs to be present to win and can only win one time in the school year.  Teachers do not pay PTO dues unless they have a child attending the school.

 

 

ARTICLE VIII


Nomination for Office

 

SECTION I:  Volunteer sheets for Executive Board positions, Fund Raising Coordinators and Committee Chairpersons shall go out in January.

SECTION II:  If positions for the next school year are vacant, then nominations will be taken at the March General PTO Meeting.

ARTICLE IX


Election

 

SECTION I:  If necessary, officers shall be elected at the March meeting by ballot.

SECTION II:  Any paid member of the PTO may vote.

  • Faculty members are considered honorary members and are permitted to vote.
  • At least 50 members shall constitute a quorum.

SECTION III:  A judge and one teller shall be appointed by the President to collection and count ballots.

SECTION IV:  Installation of new officers shall take place at the May meeting.

ARTICLE X


Rules of Order

Robert's Rules of order shall govern the proceedings of the PTO in all cases not covered by the constitution.

ARTICLE XII


Amendments

 

This constitution may be amended at any general meeting of the organization by a vote of those present providing there is a quorum, if notice of the proposed amendment has been given in writing previous to the meeting.  The term "quorum" for purposes of this Article XII shall mean fifty (50) or more PTO members attending a general meeting.

This constitution was amended March 15, 1989.


Amendment voted on and passed at general meeting May 20, 1992.


This constitution was voted on and amended on May 15, 1996.


This constitution was amended, voted on, and passed on April 28, 2004.  15 members approved.


This constitution was amended, voted on, and passed on August 15, 2005.  A majority approved.


This constitution was amended, voted on, and passed on February 28, 2006.  A majority approved.
